The Silence Within

Inspired by the mass migration south by the Snowy Owl this year I painted this with the intention of keeping it a little loose. I wanted to capture a quiet, almost serene mood with this one. They have an almost eerie elegance to them and I wanted to maintain that with this piece.
The Snowy Owl migration this year is of epic proportions. It's been described as one of the most significant wildlife events in several decades. One of the reasons biologists are attributing this event to is the great population of Lemmings in the artic last year. This led to the owls most likely laying more thna the normal one to two eggs. Snowy Owls can lay up to seven eggs at a time. Ths abundant source of food surely caused the upswing in the owl population and most of the owls that are venturing so far south are most likely young males.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity that has actually generated income for local economies due to visitors and birders traveling to locations where the owls are spending the winter. If you have a chance, go get some pics! They are magnificent birds that stand two feet tall with five foot wing spans. Beautiful creatures that are very photogenic!
